Windsurfing: West Mersea Wind Direction: W Wind Stength: F3-5 Surf / Sea State: flat Air Temperature: warm Sea Temperature: warm Weather: sunny Max Speed: 26.92 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 25.3 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
Great day at West Mersea with the Felixstowe crew and the locals. I had a
brilliant 5* sail from midday water was well in by 11.30. Ian (7M) Mark D
(7M or so) Maker 8.5. Most of the local sailors went 5.5 to 6.5M which
seemed a bit low. Rigged 8.5 cos Maker said he was but the wind was too
much for me when it filled in.
I sat out the worst gusts (7.5M would have been spot on,) but there were a
few lulls to give me a great sail on warm flat water. I didn’t notice any
chop and it got flatter when tide turned I think. Had some screaming
reaches in the bay using my 146L Excite pro edition, clocked 26.92 but
could have gone faster using my 7.8M. The 8.6 Gaastra savage is a great
sail but had to flatten off too much and it was a handful in the F5 bits
with a limited top end I think.
Fabulous sunny warm day, parked on the green, next to the beach. Ian and
Mark were flying all day whilst me and Maker had a few lulls, which I was
happy with to rest in the harness. Prob 15 windsurfers and several kities
out.
Friendly Mersea crew out, but they def seem to go quite small, and to be
honest were flying on quite small kit. £3 to park all day in the perfect
spot unlike some rip off places, although I spent £4 cos Maker turned up
with £2 to his name!!! Guess that paid for the GO-Pro footage on U tube
:)
Top Top day for me in a long while, with the wind between F3 – F5 all
day. Stopped after high tide around 3.30/4.00 ish as de-hydrated and
exhausted hanging on to a meter too much and wearing a winter suit (could
have been a shortie)
